Tamil Nadu Transport Minister Sivasankar announced that all government buses in the state will soon be equipped with automatic doors to enhance passenger safety.During a discussion in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, AIADMK MLA Jayakumar raised concerns about certain government buses bypassing important towns along their routes. He pointed out that buses traveling from Erode to Perundurai via Tiruppur often take the flyover route, skipping towns like Vijayamangalam.
âAs a result, passengers from these towns are forced to board overcrowded buses, leading to dangerous travel conditions. On February 6, due to heavy crowding, a private bus overturned, killing three students from Perundurai who were traveling on the footboard,â Jayakumar said. He urged the government to install automatic doors in all buses to prevent such tragedies.
In response, Minister Sivasankar assured that the process of installing automatic doors in government buses is already underway. âThe installation of automatic doors has been completed in government buses operating within Chennai city. The work will be extended to buses in other regions in a phased manner,â he said.
He further emphasized that ensuring the safety of school students and other passengers is a priority for the government, and necessary measures will be taken to prevent footboard travel and related accidents.
The move to install automatic doors in all government buses is expected to improve passenger safety and reduce accidents caused by overcrowding, especially for students and daily commuters.
