Sathyamangalam, May 1: At a May Day public meeting held in Areepalayam near Aasanur in the Bhavanisagar Assembly constituency, Erode district, AIADMK MLA and senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan addressed party workers and laborers, strongly criticising the current state of governance in Tamil Nadu.Organized by the AIADMK-affiliated Anna Labour Union of Erode Suburban West District, Sengottaiyan claimed that no government scheme, though announced in the name of the people, is currently benefiting them in reality.
He recalled the AIADMK’s protest against the move to merge panchayats with municipal areas. “It was only after our opposition that the government dropped that plan,” he said.
Highlighting the legacy of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), Sengottaiyan stated, “MGR is the only leader who provided nutritious meals to 80 lakh children across Tamil Nadu. This is a fact that cannot be denied by anyone.”
Referring to his own tenure as a minister, he said, “During my time, I facilitated employment for one lakh people. That’s why I say with confidence—AIADMK will win in 200 constituencies in the upcoming elections.”
He emphasized that during AIADMK’s rule, several pro-people schemes were effectively implemented, starting from the MGR era. “These schemes uplifted the lives of the poor and underprivileged and brought them happiness. But now, things have taken a turn for the worse,” he said, suggesting a decline in public welfare under the current regime.
