In a move to promote eco-friendly transportation, the Greater Chennai Corporation has announced plans to install Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at nine major spots across the city. This initiative is part of the city’s efforts to support green mobility and encourage more people to shift to electric vehicles by improving charging infrastructure. Corporation officials said that tenders for the project will be floated within the next two weeks. The installation process is expected to begin shortly after the contracts are awarded. Once completed, the charging stations will support electric two-wheelers, cars, and other compatible EVs. The selected locations for the EV charging stations include high-traffic and popular areas such as: Besant Nagar – Ashtalakshmi Temple Parking Besant Nagar Beach Parking Area, Ambattur – Mangal Lake Parking, T. Nagar – Corporation Ground Parking, T. Nagar – Somasundaram Ground, Semmozhi Park – Thousand Lights, Marina Beach Parking Zone, Anna Nagar – Bogan Villa Park and Mylapore – Nageswara Rao Park These areas were chosen based on factors such as accessibility, footfall, and traffic density, to ensure that the infrastructure is used effectively by both residents and visitors. By expanding EV charging points in strategic locations, the Greater Chennai Corporation hopes to make electric vehicle use more convenient and contribute to a cleaner, greener city.
