TVK president Vijay came down heavily on the DMK government on Tuesday for not conducting a caste survey in Tamil Nadu. He said the ruling party is hiding behind the Centre’s inaction and failing to uphold social justice.
“The DMK government is silent while other states have already begun caste surveys. This delay is unacceptable,” Vijay said in a strong statement. He added that not holding the survey would be a betrayal of Periyar’s ideals and the concept of real social equality.
Vijay welcomed the Union government’s decision to conduct a caste-based census in 2027 but warned it must not be just a political formality. “A proper caste census must lead to fair reservation and internal quotas. A dedicated panel with community representatives must oversee this process,” he said.
