AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has slammed the DMK government for hiking electricity tariffs every year since coming to power. Speaking at a public meeting in Pudukottai, he said his own bill had risen from ₹4,000 to ₹12,000, highlighting the pressure on common people. He noted that tariffs were increased by 30% in 2022, followed by smaller hikes in 2023, 2024, and July 2025. EPS blamed poor management and costly power purchases for the hike, accusing the DMK of shifting the burden to the public.
He contrasted Tamil Nadu’s approach with Maharashtra, which recently announced a 26% cut in electricity rates.
EPS also questioned the DMK’s promise of providing relief to the public, stating that rising power costs show a clear betrayal of that assurance. He urged the government to take corrective steps instead of burdening citizens year after year.
