The AIADMK has filed a petition in the Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench asking to stop the removal of its flagpoles from public places. The petition said that the party had set up flagpoles near a bus stop opposite Jayam Theatre in Palanganatham bypass road with permission. The party requested the court to allow the poles to remain.
Earlier, the High Court ordered that all permanent flagpoles of political parties on public land must be removed within 12 weeks. Following this, several parties, including the CPM, filed petitions against the move.
A three-judge bench has now ordered that no flagpoles should be removed until the case is heard again. The next hearing is scheduled for August 6.
