PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the Tamil Nadu government not to push sanitary workers into permanent posts without offering them alternative livelihood opportunities.
He said making sanitation jobs permanent could trap workers and their families in the same work for generations. Instead, he suggested providing options such as government jobs suited to their educational qualifications after a few years of service, or support to start businesses through credit schemes with interest subsidies.
Anbumani warned that otherwise, both government and private bodies would continue to exploit sanitary workers in the name of social justice. He stressed that no policy should allow such exploitation.
