Expelled AIADMK veteran K.A. Sengottaiyan on Friday claimed that the BJP had asked him to intervene and reunite the divided factions within AIADMK.
Speaking to the media in Gobichettipalayam, Sengottaiyan revealed that BJP entrusted him with the task of uniting AIADMKâs factions, stressing that the party has no alternative but to align with BJP to reclaim power in Tamil Nadu.He asserted that AIADMK, after the demise of J. Jayalalithaa, was helped and protected by the BJP for four years until current AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami severed ties.
Sengottaiyan also accused Palaniswami of authoritarian leadership and criticized his removal of several party members linked to him.
Meanwhile, BJP Tamil Nadu state president Nainar Nagenthran suggested that Sengottaiyanâs statements had the backing of DMK forces, implying the timing and nature of the remarks were suspicious and potentially aimed at destabilizing BJP-AIADMK relations.
Sengottaiyanâs disclosure has stirred controversy within AIADMK and between the Dravidian party and its BJP ally amid political maneuvering ahead of the 2026 elections, with many watching closely how these tensions impact the partyâs unity and electoral prospects.
