Chief Minister Stalin strongly criticised the actions of Governor R.N. Ravi during the ongoing session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, calling them a direct challenge to democratic principles and the mandate of the people.
Responding to debates on the governor’s address, Stalin said that the governor’s refusal to read out the speech prepared by the state government amounted to undermining people’s democracy. He asserted that the governor’s conduct not only disrespects the office but also weakens the constitutional fabric by acting against the government elected by the people.
Stalin highlighted that past governors under previous administrations respected democratic norms, but alleged that in the last three years the current governor has repeatedly refused to perform the customary duty of reading the government’s address, instead walking out of the Assembly session and ignoring established conventions. He described this behaviour as a challenge to democratic governance in the state and said the governor’s perspective was “flawed and outdated.”
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to defend his government’s record, listing key achievements during the DMK’s tenure—including improvements in agricultural electrification, cultural infrastructure projects, and tourism growth—while contrasting them with the conduct of the Governor’s office.
