Senior BJP leader K. Annamalai has announced that he is stepping down from his election responsibilities in the party ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Annamalai, who had been appointed as the in-charge for six assembly constituencies, said he is relinquishing these roles due to personal reasons, including the need to attend to his ailing father..
Speaking to reporters, Annamalai said he discussed his decision with party leadership, including Nainar Nagendran, and clarified that his move was motivated by family commitments. While he did not rule out future political contests, he stated that the timing for contesting elections will be decided later.
Annamalai’s decision comes at a crucial juncture as the BJP and its allies gear up for a tough electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
The former state BJP president has been a prominent face in the party’s campaign efforts, and his withdrawal from direct election responsibilities is likely to trigger organisational adjustments in the party’s poll strategy.
