K. C. Venugopal, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), held crucial talks with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M. K. Stalin on Sunday night regarding seat-sharing arrangements ahead of formal negotiations with the panel constituted by the national party.
Venugopal, who airdashed to Chennai, met Stalin at his residence. The meeting was attended by Girish Chodankar, who heads the AICC seat-sharing panel.
The discussions assumed significance as they are believed to have paved the way for smoother seat-sharing talks between the Congress and the DMK.
During his earlier visit, Venugopal had categorically dismissed the repeated demands raised by a section of Congress leaders for power-sharing in Tamil Nadu. He clarified that the party had no such proposal. He maintained that those airing such views were expressing personal opinions.
Stalin had already rejected the idea of power-sharing, stating that it was not suitable for Tamil Nadu. Amid continued reiteration of the demand by some Congress functionaries, M
Venugopal reaffirmed that the AICC had no intention of pursuing it.
