Madurai, Mar 30:
Nearly six years after the custodial deaths of father and son duo at Sathankulam in the southern Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu that shook the entire nation, the First Additional District and Sessions Court in Madurai found all the nine accused police personnel guilty and convicted them in the sensational case last week.
The quantum of sentence to be awarded to them would be pronounced today.
Delivering the verdict in the case pertaining to the 2020 custodial deaths case of trader P. Jayaraj and his son J. Benicks at Sathankulam, Judge G. Muthukumaran convicted all the nine cops after finding them guilty.
The nine police personnel convicted are the then Inspector S. Sridhar, whose bail plea had already been rejected by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, Sub-Inspectors P. Raghu Ganesh and K. Balakrishnan, head constables S. Murugan and A. Saamidurai, and constables M. Muthuraj, S. Chelladurai, X. Thomas Francis, and S. Velumuthu.
Special Sub-Inspector Pauldurai, who is also an accused in the case, later died after contracting COVID-19.
