Stylish Spy Thriller

Mr X emerges as an ambitious attempt to bring a large-scale spy thriller experience to Tamil cinema, drawing inspiration from global franchises like Mission: Impossible, Bourne, and James Bond. Directed by Manu Anand, the film sets out to deliver a fast-paced entertainer packed with action, intrigue, and high-stakes drama—and largely succeeds in offering an engaging cinematic ride.

The story follows Gautham (Arya), a RAW agent navigating covert missions in Chennai, as a dangerous nuclear device falls into the wrong hands. With antagonist Rana plotting a catastrophic attack during the G20 summit, the narrative builds urgency through multiple intersecting plotlines. Amaran (Gautham Karthik) adds a layer of strategy and suspense, while Mr X (Sarathkumar) brings gravitas as a seasoned operative. Manju Warrier, as RAW chief Indira Verma, anchors the mission with authority.
What stands out in Mr X is its scale and intent. The film moves briskly through twists, betrayals, and action set pieces, ensuring there is rarely a dull moment. While the narrative leans more towards spectacle than realism, its unpredictability and constant momentum keep viewers invested throughout.

On the technical front, the film scores well. Cinematographer Arul Vincent captures diverse locales across India and Russia with a polished, international visual style. The action sequences are mounted with ambition, aligning with the film’s global aspirations, while Dhibu Ninan Thomas enhances the tension with a gripping background score.

Performances further elevate the film. Sarathkumar delivers a commanding presence, while Manju Warrier leaves a strong impact in a pivotal role. The supporting cast—including Anagha, Athulya, Raiza Wilson, Kali Venkat, and Jayaprakash—adds depth and texture to the narrative.

Produced by Vineet Jain and S Lakshman Kumar, Mr X is worth a watch.
