Chennai, Apr 25:
Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, said the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections have redefined electoral politics, crediting voters for breaking long-held assumptions about political participation.
According to his statement after polling, the massive voter turnout—estimated at around 85%—marked an unprecedented shift in the state’s political landscape.
Vijay emphasised that ordinary people, especially youth, women, and first-time voters, played a decisive role in this transformation. He noted that families turned out in large numbers to vote, creating an atmosphere comparable to festive gatherings, which he said challenged the belief that politics is limited to a select or experienced few.
He further argued that the elections have “shattered the myth” that political engagement is restricted to elites, highlighting how previously disengaged sections of society actively participated this time.
The actor-turned-politician described this surge in participation as a turning point, suggesting that Tamil Nadu’s political culture is undergoing a generational shift.
