Rajasthan Royals prodigy says adaptability, composure and fitness hold the key to future success
Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who lit up the Indian Premier League 2026 season with explosive strokeplay, says his biggest takeaway has been learning to adapt his game to match situations while staying calm under pressure.
The 15-year-old star, representing Rajasthan Royals, emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament despite his team falling short of the final after a Qualifier 2 loss to Gujarat Titans.
Sooryavanshi topped the batting charts with a staggering 776 runs in 16 innings, averaging 48.50 with a phenomenal strike rate of 237.30. His season included one century and five half-centuries, earning him the prestigious Orange Cap.
Reflecting on his performance, the youngster said he has matured tactically through the season. “You cannot play every game in one mode. You have to read the situation and play according to the team’s requirements. I learnt this especially in pressure matches and playoffs,” he noted.
Known for his fearless hitting, Sooryavanshi shattered Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for most sixes in a single IPL season, smashing an incredible 72 maximums—well past the previous mark of 59.
On his aggressive style, he said confidence remains key. “If I feel I can hit the ball, I go all out,” he said, underlining his instinct-driven approach at the crease.
However, the young cricketer is already looking beyond immediate success. Emphasising longevity, he said fitness will be a major focus going forward. “I want to play for a long time, so I need to work on my fitness and stay injury-free,” he added.
Sooryavanshi also credited the supportive environment within the Rajasthan Royals camp, highlighting the role of senior players and support staff in his rapid growth. “Everyone backs me, and I get to learn a lot from experienced players. The environment has been very positive,” he said.
With a record-breaking debut season and a grounded outlook, Sooryavanshi’s rise signals the arrival of a new-generation star in Indian cricket.
