Chennai, June 5:

In its first major initiative towards industrial development, the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister Vijay on Thursday signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Larsen and Toubro (L&T) for launching three major projects involving a total investment of ₹18,600 crore, aimed at achieving the State’s ambitious target of a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036.

The MoU was signed and exchanged between government and company officials in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay, Industries Minister Ms Keerthana, L&T Managing Director S N Subramanian, and senior officials at the State Secretariat.

According to an official release, the three projects are expected to generate employment for around 8,200 people across the State.

The projects include the expansion of an Information and Data Centre in Kancheepuram district with an investment of ₹15,000 crore, expected to create 500 jobs. An electronics accessories manufacturing facility will be set up in Coimbatore with an investment of ₹2,500 crore, generating around 2,000 jobs.

Additionally, a shipbuilding yard will be established at Kattupalli port in Tiruvallur district with an investment of ₹1,100 crore, which is expected to provide employment to about 5,700 people.

The initiative marks a significant step in boosting industrial growth, attracting large-scale investments, and creating employment opportunities in Tamil Nadu.
