Chennai, June 24:
The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu from June 26, attributing the change in weather to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Lakshadweep region.
According to the forecast, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely to occur across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between June 23 and June 25. The intensity of rainfall is expected to increase in the Western Ghats districts and parts of North Tamil Nadu during this period.
From June 26 onwards, districts including Coimbatore, The Nilgiris and Theni are likely to receive heavy rainfall. The wet spell is expected to continue on June 27 and 28, extending to districts such as Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Madurai and Virudhunagar.
On June 29, isolated heavy rain is predicted in parts of the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni and Virudhunagar districts, indicating a gradual reduction in widespread rainfall activity.
For Chennai and its suburbs, the weather department has predicted a partly cloudy sky with chances of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, especially during evening or night hours on June 23 and 24. The city is also expected to experience high temperatures, with maximums around 38°C to 39°C and minimums between 28°C and 29°C.
Residents in the affected regions have been advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions, particularly during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
