In a remarkable feat for Tamil cinema music, Mutta Kalakki from the film Youth has emerged as the highest-viewed Indian film song of 2026, crossing a staggering 250 million views across digital platforms.

Music composer GV Prakash Kumar took to social media to announce the milestone, calling it a “double delight” moment following his recent National Award recognition. “It’s a 250 million for Mutta Kalakki — the highest viewed song for any feature film in India in 2026,” he shared.

The track, sung and written by Ken Karunaas, has struck a chord with younger audiences, thanks to its contemporary pop vibe, catchy hooks, and playful romantic lyrics. With backing vocals by Anand Kashinath, the song has grown into a cultural phenomenon, especially among Gen Z listeners who have propelled it through reels and short-video platforms.

Interestingly, Mutta Kalakki’s journey to success was far from conventional. The song was released independently under GV Prakash’s own label after several music companies reportedly declined to back the project, citing the film’s relatively new team. Today, that very decision stands vindicated as the track tops national charts and breaks viewership records.

“This success proves that good content will always find its audience,” a source close to the production said. “The team believed in the song when others didn’t.”

The film Youth, directed by and starring Ken Karunaas, has also benefited from the song’s massive popularity, with Mutta Kalakki becoming its defining identity. The track’s viral success has not only boosted the film’s visibility but also established Ken as a promising new voice in the industry.

However, the song’s journey has not been without controversy. During promotions, Ken Karunaas sparked debate with comments about casting choices and industry dynamics, drawing criticism from sections of the audience. He later clarified that his remarks were not intended to offend and were meant to reflect the struggles of a newcomer.

Despite the brief backlash, the song’s popularity has remained unaffected, continuing its upward trajectory. With over 252 million views, Mutta Kalakki is now closing in on the numbers of independent hit Pavazha Malli, further intensifying the race for the year’s most-watched track overall.

Industry observers believe the success of Mutta Kalakki marks a shift in how music reaches audiences. “This is a clear example of how digital platforms and youth engagement can redefine success metrics in cinema music,” noted a trade analyst.
