Copenhagen, Oct 26:
India’s P V Sindhu fought hard but had to settle for the runner-up spot after losing to South Korea’s An Se-young in the women’s singles final of the Denmark Open.
Sindhu faced a tough challenge against the top Korean shuttler, who once again proved difficult to overcome. Despite putting up a determined fight, the Indian could not prevent An from taking control at crucial stages of the contest. The defeat extended Sindhu’s difficult run against the Korean, who has emerged as one of the dominant players on the international circuit.
The final offered Sindhu an opportunity to secure a major title and underline her return to form against the world’s leading players. However, An’s consistency, court coverage and ability to sustain pressure made the difference. Sindhu had to settle for second place after an encouraging campaign at the tournament.
The result also highlighted the challenge facing Sindhu as she seeks to regain her place among the leading contenders in women’s badminton. The former world champion and Olympic medallist has continued to compete against a strong field, while An has established herself as a formidable opponent across major tournaments.
