Actress Sai Pallavi says portraying Sita in the upcoming epic Ramayana was unlike any other role she had taken up, as she approached the character with prayer, faith and a willingness to learn rather than relying on preconceived ideas. Speaking during an appearance on Amitabh Bachchan-hosted quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, alongside co-stars Ranbir Kapoor and Ravi Dubey, the actress reflected on the responsibility of bringing the revered character to the screen.
Q: What went through your mind when you were offered the role of Sita?
A: This time, I did not want to use my mind too much. Whenever I play a character, I usually think about what I can do for that character. But for the first time, while playing Sita Maa, I wondered what I would receive from the experience and what knowledge I would gain from it.
Q: How did you want to approach such a revered character?
A: Whatever I knew, I wanted to keep myself transparent. I did not want to form too many thoughts or preconceived notions about the role. I simply prayed to Sita Maa, asking her to let me portray the character through me, and left it at that.
Q: Did you see the role as an opportunity to learn something new?
A: Yes. Instead of thinking only about what I could bring to the character, I wanted to understand what the character could teach me. I wanted to remain open to the wisdom and learning that could come from portraying Sita Maa.
Q: How did Amitabh Bachchan respond to your approach?
A: Amitabh Bachchan appreciated her response, telling her that she had made a very good point.
