Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurating the newly- constructed Puratchi Thalaivar Bharat Ratna Dr MGR Centenary Library built on the premises of International Institute of Tamil Studies, Taramani, through video-conferencing at the Secretariat in Chennai Tuesday.

Chennai: An MoU was signed by the Tamilnadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) with Indian Management Organisation, Tiruchi, USA Virginia Tech India Centre for Advanced Research Education and Pontaq UK India Innovation Fund in the presence of Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the Secretariat Tuesday.

Piling on its achievements in the last two years, the State is continuing to give importance to the development of block chain, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), etc., said a release from the government.

In addition, Tuesday also witnessed the handing over of 2018-19 Living Handloom Treasure awards by the Chief Minister to seven handloom weavers, Poompuhar State awards to 10 handloom weavers and cash awards to three silk farmers. The event witnessed the participation of officials from the Tamilnadu Handloom Development Corporation.

As far as developments in Tamilnadu Revenue and Disaster Management Department go, the Chief Minister inaugurated new revenue circles: Tiruvattar, Killiyur in Kanyakumari district, Vatthirairupu in Virudhunagar district, Gujuliamparai in Dindigul district and R K Pettai in Tiruvallur district.

He also inaugurated newly-constructed revenue division and taluk offices in Virudhunagar and Villupuram districts built at the cost of Rs 11,87,41,000.

Palaniswami also inaugurated the newly-built Puratchi Thalaivar Bharat Ratna Dr MGR Centenary Library, built at a cost of Rs 2.3 crore on the premises of the International Institute of Tamil Studies, Taramani. This centre was created following the announcement of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and is being used for research and to translate the best literature of other languages into Tamil.

The research scholar hostel in the complex, costing Rs 25 lakh, was also declared open.
