Chennai: Tamilnadu BJP president K Annamalai said Governor R N Ravi’s security was thoroughly compromised and demanded an apology from Chief Minister M K Stalin.
Terming it ‘a serious lapse of security’ during the Governor’s visit to Mayiladuthurai, Annamalai tweeted two footages that show flag poles falling on vehicles in the convoy, and said it was disheartening that the Tamilnadu police in its official report had stated that no attack took place.
‘The DMK organised the protest, and then put its allies in front,’ he said and added they would submit a petition to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Puducherry for further action.
‘You (DMK government) have created a situation where the Governor’s security has been directly compromised. You have allowed people right next to the convoy and when that convoy was passing, a stone was pelted on the convoy, flags were thrown. The DMK government is using all the tricks of the trade to make the Governor feel threatened,’ he added.
Stalin on Wednesday denied any compromise in the security of the Governor.
Speaking in the Assembly, he asserted that not even a ‘speck of dust’ fell on the Governor during the black flag protest against him in Mayiladuthurai and said the opposition AIADMK’s attempts to do politics over the matter will not fructify as this is DMK rule.
Replying to the Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who accused the government of failing to provide security to the Governor, Stalin said even though demonstrations were held in a democratic manner, the government had ensured security for him.
‘Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (O Panneerselvam) sought to politicise the issue. But let me say firmly they will not succeed in their attempt,’ the CM said amidst the thumping of desks by legislators of the DMK and its allies.
