D. Jayakumar, former State Minister and senior AIADMK leader has expressed optimism about his party regaining the trust of minority communities in Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that many minorities are reportedly unhappy with the present political regime and are increasingly concerned about their safety. They are starting to realise that their interests were better protected during the AIADMK’s governance.Speaking to the media after a meeting of the party’s minority wing at the AIADMK headquarters, Jayakumar highlighted that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had promised flourishing lives for minorities before the assembly election, but these promises remain unfulfilled. He suggested that minorities are now recognizing that the AIADMK regime provided a better environment for their livelihoods and peaceful living conditions.
Jayakumar accused the DMK of treating its alliance partners as “slaves” and imposing its agenda on them. He claimed that the political landscape had shifted, giving alliance parties the opportunity to voice their concerns and potentially join the AIADMK-led front in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In a significant move, the AIADMK’s minority wing passed a resolution expressing gratitude to the party’s General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, for ending the party’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and leaving the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
