The city of Chennai experienced widespread rainfall on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the oppressive humidity. The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the rain is likely to continue for the next two days, with a yellow warning issued for 11 districts in Tamil Nadu predicting heavy downpours due to cyclonic circulations over the sea and a favorable southwest monsoon.Numerous areas in Chennai, including Egmore, T Nagar, Nungambakkam, Arumbakkam, and Tambaram, received moderate rainfall. This weather event has significantly alleviated the city’s humidity, much to the residents’ relief. The meteorological department anticipates cloudy skies with light to moderate rain in various parts of the city and its suburbs, particularly during the evenings and nights in the coming days.
The cyclonic circulation currently situated over Kerala and its surrounding regions has now shifted over south Tamil Nadu and its neighborhood, reaching up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. This system is largely responsible for the prevailing weather conditions.
Heavy Rainfall Warning
Additionally, light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds is expected across the rest of Tamil Nadu. The monsoon spells are expected to keep the maximum temperatures near normal in many areas, although some interior districts might experience slightly above-normal temperatures over the next two days.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a cautionary advisory for fishermen, recommending them not to venture into the sea until June 8. This is due to the anticipated strong wind speeds ranging from 35 kmph to 45 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 55 kmph, which are likely to prevail over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Comorin area.
