Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and Chief Minister MK Stalin has called for urgent action to protect social justice and ensure the proper implementation of reservation policies across the country.
He called the filling of lateral entry posts in the union government without applying SC/ST and OBC reservation an assault on social justice and said that caste census was imperative to guarantee that education and job opportunities are justly distributed to all backward and oppressed sections of the society.
In a recent tweet, Stalin outlined several critical steps that he believes the Union Government must take to uphold the rights of marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and minorities.
Stalin expressed strong opposition to the practice of lateral entry in government services, describing it as a “direct assault on social justice.”
He argued that lateral entry deprives meritorious SC, ST, OBC, and minority officers of their deserved opportunities at senior levels. He urged the Union Government to halt this practice and instead focus on filling backlog vacancies for OBCs and SC/STs, while also ensuring fair and equitable promotions for these groups.
In addition to opposing lateral entry, Stalin reiterated his demand for the complete abolition of the Creamy Layer concept, which he noted the DMK has always opposed. Until its abolition, Stalin called for an immediate increase in the stagnant ceiling for the Creamy Layer, stressing the need for swift action to prevent further delays.
Furthermore, Stalin emphasised the importance of conducting a nationwide caste census, which he believes is essential for ensuring that educational and employment opportunities are justly distributed to all backward and oppressed sections of society. He argued that a caste census is necessary to address the historical injustices faced by these communities and to guarantee that they receive their rightful share of opportunities.
