The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is intensifying its search for associates of Kajamohideen, a key figure involved in recruiting individuals for the IS (Islamic State) terrorist organization in Tamil Nadu. Kajamohideen, hailing from Kollumedu in Cuddalore district, has a history of militant activity, including receiving weapons training from IS. He was arrested in Delhi for his involvement in the 2014 murder of Hindu Munnani leader Suresh Kumar in Thiruvallur district.Kajamohideen has been a significant figure in IS recruitment within Tamil Nadu. He is suspected of converting several individuals into radical militants, including those responsible for various terrorist activities.
One of the notable incidents linked to Kajamohideenâs network was the 2020 murder of Special Sub-Inspector Wilson at a checkpoint in Kanyakumari district. The killing was carried out by militants as part of a plan to pressure authorities into releasing Kajamohideen from custody.
Additionally, Kajamohideenâs influence extended to the training of individuals like Musavir Hussain Shajip and Abdul Majeed Taha, who were responsible for the March 1, 2020, bomb blast at the Rameswaram Cafe in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Kajamohideen’s associates continue to recruit individuals for IS in various parts of Tamil Nadu. Their activities have prompted the NIA to launch an extensive search operation across the state to identify and apprehend these recruiters.
The ongoing efforts by the NIA underscore the gravity of the threat posed by IS recruiters in the region and the need for stringent measures to counter their influence.
The NIAâs operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle terror networks within India, especially in regions where radicalization and recruitment activities are prevalent. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could be linked to terrorism.
