Chennai’s Meteorological Department has announced that Tamil Nadu will continue to experience scorching heat for at least another week until a new low-pressure system forms over the Bay of Bengal. In its official statement, the department reported that while light showers were observed in some regions, such as Nilgiris and Ranipet, the heatwave continues to affect most plains in the state.
Due to variations in the speed of westerly winds, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in some areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today, which may continue until September 23.
Several parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to experience temperatures rising up to 4 degrees Celsius higher than usual today. The combination of increased temperatures and humidity will result in severe heat conditions, which could cause physical discomfort for those venturing outdoors.
In Chennai, the daytime temperature is expected to rise to 102°F (39°C).
Voluntary weather analysts commented that the change in wind direction from Kerala to Tamil Nadu is causing the intense heat. A low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh and surrounding regions is weakening.
By September 22, a new atmospheric disturbance is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, potentially leading to the development of a low-pressure area. This may allow moisture-laden winds to return from the west toward Tamil Nadu.
