Senior BJP leader and Coordination Committee Chairman H. Raja stated that when the BJP-led alliance comes to power in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the corrupt practices of the DMK will be exposed. He also criticized the state government’s stance on prohibition, calling it a “drama” aimed at blaming the central government.
Speaking at a public gathering in Tirunelveli, Raja remarked, “The DMK is staging a false drama, claiming that the central government should impose prohibition and provide the state with ₹48,000 crore in revenue lost from alcohol sales. The state government runs liquor shops and earns huge revenue from them. This is just an excuse to shift the blame onto the center.”
Raja highlighted that the central government had recently approved Rs 63,246 crore for the Chennai Metro project, following a request from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and a letter from BJP state president Annamalai to the Prime Minister. “The central government’s approval for the project is welcomed by the Tamil Nadu BJP. The BJP has also been instrumental in securing approvals for projects worth Rs 10.6 lakh crore for the state,” he added.
Raja further criticized the DMK and its allies, accusing them of conducting a political drama during the October 2 convention, comparing it to “playing for no runs.” He reiterated that the state government has the authority over liquor-related laws and that the central government does not need to pass any law regarding prohibition. He cited the example of the state government obtaining special permissions for jallikattu, emphasizing that the central government has no role in enforcing prohibition laws.
Additionally, Raja accused DMK leaders of being involved in the sale of drugs like cannabis and suggested that the DMK should form a “drug unit” within the party. “The DMK is acting as a destructive force, planning to ruin Tamil society,” he said.
