In an interview in Kovilpatti, former minister Kadambur Raju discussed the prevailing political landscape in Tamil Nadu, asserting that Dravidian ideology remains central to political discourse in the state.
“Tamil Nadu is the land of Dravidian politics. No one can engage in politics here without addressing Dravidian issues. That’s why, after more than 50 years, Dravidian parties continue to dominate the political scene. National parties have little space here; politics can only thrive on Dravidian principles,” Raju stated.
He emphasized the necessity of referencing prominent figures in Dravidian politics, such as E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar), Anna Durai, and M.G. Ramachandran (M.G.R.). “No one can do politics in Tamil Nadu without acknowledging their contributions. This is why actor Vijay, who has recently started a new party, pays homage to these leaders in his speeches,” he added.
Raju criticized both the central and state governments for making numerous promises to the public without fulfilling them. He pointed out that the AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) operates according to its policy agenda, suggesting that Vijay has echoed this sentiment in his statements. “However, he has been unable to critique or identify any shortcomings in the AIADMK, indicating there are no issues to raise,” Raju remarked.
In Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) has always been the primary opponent of the AIADMK. “This is why they are the only party that criticizes us,” he explained. He further noted that decisions regarding electoral alliances would be made by EPS (Edappadi K. Palaniswami).
