Lalitha, the granddaughter of renowned Tamil scholar Maraimalai Adigal, was recently allotted a house under the slum clearance project after approaching the Thanjavur district collector for assistance. The house, located under the project, was handed over to her by Minister for Higher Education, Govi Chezhiaan, in a ceremony on Wednesday.
Lalitha, a Tamil scholar, had been residing in a rented house at Thanjavur Keezha Vasal, struggling to afford the rent. In search of a more stable housing option, she approached Thanjavur district collector B. Priyanka Pankajam and appealed for support under the slum clearance project. In response, the district collector allocated House No. K5 to Lalitha from the scheme.
In addition to this housing assistance, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the AIADMK general secretary, provided Lalitha with a monetary assistance of Rs. 1 lakh on Tuesday, further aiding her in her time of need.
At the handover event, Minister Govi Chezhiaan, accompanied by Collector Priyanka Pankajam and DRO Thiyagarajan, presented the key to Lalitha. Speaking to reporters, Lalitha expressed her gratitude, stating that after scrutinizing her application, officials asked her to pay Rs. 73,000 to avail of the scheme. However, she mentioned that the government had initiated the payment on her behalf, allowing the house key to be handed over to her. Lalitha thanked Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for personally addressing her grievance and fulfilling her request for housing assistance.
