Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticized Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks on the state’s opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, calling the Centre’s insistence on the three-language policy a form of blackmail tied to educational funding. In a sharp rebuttal, Stalin challenged the constitutional validity of the trilingual policy, questioning which provision of the Indian Constitution mandates its implementation. He asserted that Tamil Nadu’s decision to reject the policy was based on a principled interpretation of constitutional law and federalism.
“Can the Education Minister clarify which section of the Indian Constitution makes the trilingual policy a legal requirement?” Stalin asked in a social media post.
He further highlighted that education falls under the Concurrent List, making it a shared responsibility between the Union and state governments. Stalin reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu would not compromise on its long-standing two-language policy and accused the Centre of using funding as leverage to push its agenda.
