Kovilpatti: In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old college student died by suicide after the girl he loved got engaged to another person.
According to police sources, Saravanakumar, a resident of 3rd Street, Shanmugasigamani Nagar in Kovilpatti, was the son of Dhanalakshmi and the late Arjunan. His father had passed away five years ago, and his mother has been working as a daily wage laborer to support the family.
Saravanakumar was pursuing his first year of college in Kovilpatti. He was reportedly in love with a girl, but when her marriage was arranged with someone else, he became deeply distressed. Overcome with emotional pain, Saravanakumar allegedly took his own life by hanging himself at his residence.
The West Police Station officers recovered the body and sent it to the Kovilpatti Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
