Anna University’s Centre for Water Resources (CWR) is introducing a specialised training programme for Civil Engineering graduates, aimed at equipping them to crack competitive exams such as UPSC, TNPSC, GATE, and Engineering Services Examination (ESE). The initiative addresses a critical gap in engineering education, where key topics in water resources are often underrepresented despite their significant weightage—nearly 15–20%—in these exams.Dr. M.S. Karthikeyan, Programme Coordinator at CWR, said the training would place special emphasis on crucial subjects like hydrology, dam safety, groundwater modelling, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and water quality. These areas, though vital to the field of civil engineering, are often not adequately covered in the standard BE curriculum.
“Water resources engineering is a high-scoring and important area for competitive exams, but many students struggle due to lack of conceptual clarity and strategic preparation. This programme aims to bridge that gap by offering focused modules, expert guidance, and insights drawn from previous exam papers,” said Dr. Karthikeyan.
Beyond exam preparation, the training programme is also designed to open up further academic and professional avenues. Graduates will be better prepared for higher studies, research opportunities, and consultancy roles in India and abroad, especially in the growing sectors of water management and environmental engineering.
With this initiative, Anna University aims to empower the next generation of civil engineers with both academic depth and competitive edge, strengthening their prospects in national-level exams and the global job market.
