Karur, Oct 13: DMK senior leader R. S. Bharathi has accused the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of indulging in “petty politics” by using the recent Karur tragedy to gain political mileage. He alleged that the TVK was exploiting a sensitive issue involving the loss of lives for publicity and sympathy, instead of showing compassion or responsibility.
Bharathi said that when the Karur incident occurred, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin took swift action to provide relief to the affected families and ordered a transparent investigation. He pointed out that a commission headed by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan had already been formed, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the High Court is probing the matter thoroughly.
Criticizing TVK’s approach, Bharathi charged that some of its members were attempting to mislead both the judiciary and the public by twisting facts and spreading misinformation. “Using the dead for political gain is inhuman and unbecoming of a responsible political party,” he said, urging all parties to allow the inquiry to proceed without interference or politicization.
