The much-awaited book “The Brahmastra Unleashed”, authored by retired police officer D. Sivanandhan, was officially launched at the MCC School auditorium in Chennai. The book provides a true account of the turf wars unleashed by underworld dons like Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan in Mumbai during the 1980s and 1990s, and how the Mumbai Police reined in organized crime through the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.The launch was attended by retired IPS officers R.K. Raghavan, former CBI Director, Yashovardhan Azad, and Dr. Mohan Rajan, Vice President of AIOS and founder of Rajan Eye Care Foundation. The event was organized jointly by Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan, Chairman of Sundaram Natarajan Blind Free India Foundation, in collaboration with the Chennai International Centre.
Sivanandhan, former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, and later Director General of Police, Maharashtra, recounted how Mumbai faced rampant murders, extortion, gang wars, and kidnappings during that period, which led to a breakdown in law and order. His leadership and strategic initiatives were pivotal in dismantling underworld networks and restoring public trust.
A 1976-batch IPS officer, Sivanandhan also served as Commissioner of Police in Thane and Nagpur and Special IG of Anti-Naxal Operations. He previously headed the Mumbai Crime Branch, cracking down on some of India’s most dangerous criminal elements. He is also the co-author of “Chanakya’s 7 Secrets of Leadership” and founder of Roti Bank Mumbai, a non-profit serving over 20 million meals to the underprivileged since 2017.
The book not only highlights the triumph of law enforcement but also emphasizes resilience, leadership, and public service. “The Brahmastra Unleashed” is now available in major bookstores and online platforms.
