Chennai residents whose names were removed from the draft voter list can now get them corrected at special voter camps organized at polling stations today and tomorrow. These camps come after the release of Tamil Nadu’s revised electoral rolls, which saw a massive deletion of 97.37 lakh names statewide.Statewide Cleanup and Draft Roll Release
The draft voter lists for all 31 districts were published yesterday following an intensive revision by the Election Commission of India. Tamil Nadu now has 5.43 crore voters on the rolls, significantly fewer than before due to the removal of deceased individuals, duplicate entries, and untraceable voters. Election authorities described the exercise as a major step toward ensuring accuracy and transparency ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Chennai’s Major Cleanup
In Chennai alone, across 16 Assembly constituencies, 14.25 lakh names were deleted from the draft lists. Officials have urged affected voters to visit their respective polling stations (vakkuchavadi) to verify their status and submit corrections promptly. The scale of the deletions has made the special camps essential for immediate assistance.
How to Use the Camps
Authorities have outlined clear procedures for voters:
New voters: Fill Form 6 to add your name.
Wrong inclusions: Submit Form 7 to raise objections.
Name or address changes: Use Form 8 to update details.
Officials emphasized that these camps provide a quick and convenient way to resolve discrepancies ahead of the final list publication.
Forms and assistance will be available on-site to ensure that all eligible voters are correctly listed and no one is disenfranchised.
