As political parties intensify efforts to finalise alliances ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, a major controversy has emerged within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) over who should conduct coalition negotiations.
The faction led by PMK founder S. Ramadoss has issued a firm warning to other parties that Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss should not be allowed to lead coalition talks on behalf of PMK. The statement, released under the banner of the PMK Samuga Neethi Peravai, asserts that electoral alliances and negotiation decisions must be taken by the founder’s group and not by Anbumani.
According to the Ramadoss camp, Anbumani does not have the right to claim party leadership, use the PMK name or flag, or represent the party in alliance discussions without proper authority. The notice also cautioned that any attempt to conduct talks with Anbumani would lead to contempt of court proceedings.
The dispute reflects a broader leadership feud within PMK that has intensified throughout 2025, with rival factions claiming legitimacy and control over the party ahead of the crucial state election. The conflict has centred on competing claims over party leadership and strategic decisions, including alliances.
