Tamil film star-turned-politician Vijay has warned that the future of young people in Tamil Nadu is being destroyed by the increasing spread of drug abuse and lawlessness.
He urged the State Government to take strong and immediate action to safeguard the next generation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader said a recent incident — where some youths brutally attacked another youngster aboard a train from Chennai to Tiruttani — has shaken public confidence and highlighted the gravity of the problem.
The episode, he said, signals a dangerous trajectory for Tamil Nadu’s youth, raising fear and concern among citizens.
Vijay criticised the government for failing to anticipate and prevent young people from going astray. He said the lack of effective policies to guide youth on a positive path reflects the ruling administration’s negligence and irresponsibility. According to him, law and order have deteriorated, and the growing influence of drug substances is severely affecting young lives.
The TVK chief also pointed out that there are no adequate measures in place in Tamil Nadu to support youth with proper education, meaningful employment opportunities, or encouragement for innovation and new ventures. He questioned the purpose of governance if these fundamental needs were ignored.
Vijay urged the government to use the remaining period of its term to enforce strict controls on the distribution and circulation of drugs across the state, calling it an urgent necessity to protect the state’s young population from further harm.
