The traditional bull-taming competitions are scheduled to take place on January 16 at Palamedu and January 17 at Alanganallur, and organisers are making final arrangements to ensure they are conducted smoothly and safely.
At the Palamedu venue, the Mandjamalai Swami ground has been readied with a newly constructed vaadivaasal (bull entry gate), spectator galleries and double-tier safety barricades. Similar preparations are underway at the Alanganallur site, with metal barriers for crowds, dedicated seating spaces and facilities being set up for both local and international visitors.
Officials said police are stepping up security measures and coordinating traffic management plans in the surrounding areas to handle the expected large crowds. Both Palamedu and Alanganallur are popular centres for Jallikattu, drawing participants and spectators from across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
Senior political leaders are also expected to be present: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is slated to flag off the Jallikattu event in Alanganallur, while Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will inaugurate the Palamedu competition. Police have intensified safety protocols to ensure that the traditional sport proceeds without incident during the harvest festival period.
