In a sharp political exchange on Sunday, the AIADMK strongly rebutted allegations made by actor-turned-politician Vijay, accusing his fledgling party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of unfairly branding the Dravidian major as “corrupt” and “subservient to the BJP.”In a strongly worded statement, the AIADMK rejected Vijay’s charge that the party has close ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party and dismissed his criticism as baseless. Instead of addressing the issue of graft raised by Vijay, the opposition party turned the tables by accusing him of “graft in his film career,” asserting that he has no moral ground to lecture others on corruption.
The AIADMK also took aim at Vijay over his handling of the Karur tragedy, in which 41 people lost their lives at a rally last year. The party accused him of avoiding responsibility by staying at his Panaiyur residence for over 72 days after the incident and closing his party office, describing the move as an act of “sheer arrogance.” It criticised his approach to consolation events for the bereaved families, alleging that he made them travel to see him rather than visiting them, and labelled his public conduct as “dangerous narcissistic behaviour.”
Dismissing all of Vijay’s criticisms as “complete rubbish,” the AIADMK called on people to reject both the “Anna Arivalayam (DMK headquarters) trash” and the “Panaiyur trash” together, underscoring the party’s firm stance against what it described as unfair political attacks from TVK.
The exchange highlights growing tensions among political parties in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, with TVK seeking to position itself as a challenger to the established Dravidian majors.
