As political preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has issued a firm directive to its functionaries, urging them not to discuss alliance issues, seat allocation, or partner party matters in public. The party leadership says such discussions do more harm than good and detract from the primary focus — winning the polls.
The instruction came from DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi, who highlighted that comments about seat sharing and alliance partners should be avoided in the public sphere.
He said controversial debates on these subjects serve no constructive purpose and cause unnecessary controversy, distracting party workers from election readiness and public outreach. Bharathi stressed that official decisions on these topics will be made and announced by the party leadership at the appropriate time.
This announcement follows rising political friction within the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, particularly between the DMK and its key ally, the Indian National Congress. Recently, a DMK legislator’s remarks about Congress leaders sparked criticism from the TNCC leadership, further underscoring tensions within the coalition. In response, Bharathi’s directive aims to curb public disagreements and maintain alliance unity as election season approaches.
