Veteran spiritual leader GR Swaminathan has made strong remarks about the role of spiritual gurus and their followers, stating that individuals who fail to recognise gurus as manifestations of the divine are acting like scoundrels, fools and savages.
Swaminathan emphasised the importance of guru-shishya tradition, describing it as a sacred and indispensable connection in spiritual life. In his view, a spiritual teacher is not merely a human guide but represents a form of God, whose presence and teachings help devotees grow and evolve on the path of truth and righteousness.
According to him, disregarding this tradition or dismissing the guru’s divine association shows a lack of understanding of spiritual heritage and values. He argued that spiritual enlightenment cannot be achieved without acknowledging the guru’s role, and that people who reject this belief are disconnected from true wisdom.
Swaminathan’s comments have stirred discussion among followers and the wider community, highlighting ongoing debates about the relevance and interpretation of traditional spiritual practices in modern life.
His remarks also reaffirm the deep respect that many devotees hold for gurus and the spiritual lineage they represent, reinforcing the cultural significance attached to spiritual mentorship in society.
