Edappadi K. Palaniswami, General Secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), on Tuesday addressed questions from journalists about his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, providing clarity on alliance discussions and political developments ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Palaniswami said his discussions with Shah focused on the overall political scenario in the State and campaign strategy, rather than specific seat-sharing formalities. āWe discussed how we should work in the election,ā he stated, underscoring that talks with the Home Minister were intended to exchange views on the direction of the campaign and the broader political environment.
The AIADMK leader also suggested that new political parties might still join the alliance, indicating that the formation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu remains an evolving process. However, he was clear that key issues like inclusion of senior leader V.K. Sasikala in the alliance were not discussed during the meeting with Shah.
On the alliance dynamics, Palaniswami maintained that the AIADMKās partnership within the NDA is stable and positive, contrasting it with what he described as confusion within rival coalitions. He emphasised that AIADMK remains cohesive and that discussions on seat distribution for the upcoming polls will begin soon, but are still in preparatory stages.
His comments came against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between alliance partners, especially following recent rallies and consultative meetings of NDA leadership ā including discussions on how constituencies might be allocated between the AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of elections.
