Tamil Nadu Minister S. Regupathy has said that the Indian National Congress is well aware that it can enter the State Assembly only by forming an alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. His remarks come amid ongoing seat-sharing negotiations between the two parties ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Addressing reporters, Regupathy stated that the Congress does not possess the independent electoral strength in Tamil Nadu to secure significant victories on its own. He maintained that the DMK-led alliance remains strong and cohesive, and that alliance partners benefit politically by working together rather than contesting separately.
The ministerās comments assume significance at a time when discussions are underway regarding the number of Assembly seats and Rajya Sabha representation for Congress. Despite differences in seat expectations, leaders from both sides have reiterated their commitment to continuing the alliance and contesting the elections unitedly.
