M. K. Stalin is expected to make a series of major announcements, including possible election promises, during the State conference of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) scheduled to be held at Siruganur near Tiruchirappalli on March 9.
Party principal secretary and minister K. N. Nehru said on Friday that extensive preparations were under way for the large-scale gathering, which is expected to draw around 10 lakh party cadres from across Tamil Nadu.
Speaking after inspecting the arrangements at the venue in Siruganur, Nehru said the conference site spans about 200 acres. Seating has currently been arranged for nearly five lakh people, with additional chairs to be installed to accommodate the anticipated turnout.
Parking facilities have also been organised to handle around 25,000 vehicles near the venue, he added.
According to Nehru, Stalin will arrive at the venue on the evening of March 9 and is scheduled to hoist the party flag on a 100-foot mast. He will then walk along a 500-metre ramp to greet the cadres gathered at the conference.
Highlighting the political significance of the location, Nehru said previous DMK State conferences held in Tiruchirappalli had often marked important turning points for the party and expressed confidence that the upcoming event would also prove significant.
Police assistance has been sought to manage the large crowds and regulate traffic, while volunteers from various DMK wings will work with authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of the conference.
Nehru also recalled that Stalin had earlier announced the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme at a conference in Siruganur and hinted that several new schemes may be unveiled at the upcoming gathering.
Ahead of the main event, a series of cultural and entertainment programmes have been planned, including a concert by music director Srikanth Deva.
