Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin on Monday made it clear that “winnability” will be the primary criterion for allocating party tickets in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a meeting of district secretaries and party functionaries at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, Stalin said candidates would be chosen based on their popularity among voters and their ability to secure victory, rather than internal lobbying within the party. He stressed that seeking tickets through influence or pressure would be futile.
Highlighting the DMK government’s performance, Stalin said welfare-oriented schemes have generated strong public support, creating a growing perception that the party would return to power.
Setting an ambitious target, he called on party cadres to work towards winning 200 seats along with alliance partners and ensure victory in every constituency.
At the same time, Stalin cautioned party members against indiscipline, warning that their speech and actions during the campaign would directly impact the party’s image. He also issued a stern warning against internal rivalry, stating that any activity harming the party’s prospects would invite strict action.
Senior leaders including Duraimurugan, TR Baalu, Kanimozhi, A Raja, K Ponmudy, KN Nehru and Tiruchi Siva were among those who attended the meeting.
