The leader of the Thol Thirumavalavan met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin in Chennai amid an ongoing disagreement over how assembly constituencies should be distributed within the ruling alliance ahead of the upcoming state elections.
The controversy centres on the allocation of assembly seats between Thirumavalavan’s party and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam‑led coalition. For the last assembly polls, the two parties contested under alliance arrangements with specific seat arrangements, and VCK has now asked for a larger share based on a formula linking Lok Sabha and assembly segments.
However, the DMK reportedly offered fewer seats, leading to disagreements over the proposed distribution.
In the recent meeting at Stalin’s residence in Alwarpet, VCK leaders pressed for a revised seat allocation that includes more constituencies across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and insisted that candidates from their party contest under their own election symbol in those seats.
This seat‑sharing negotiation comes as political parties finalise their strategies ahead of the state assembly elections.
Details of the discussions were not publicly disclosed.
