Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has lauded the success of the ‘Tamil Pudhalvan’ scheme, stating that it is playing a key role in improving access to higher education among students from economically weaker backgrounds.
The scheme, launched in August 2024, provides ₹1,000 per month to male students who studied in government and governm3nt-sponsored schools and are pursuing higher education. The initiative aims to increase college enrolment and reduce dropout rates among students.
Highlighting its impact, the Chief Minister said the scheme has helped remove financial barriers and encouraged thousands of students to continue their education. Around 3.28 lakh students are currently benefiting from the programme, which has been allocated ₹360 crore in the current financial year.
Officials noted that the scheme was introduced following the success of similar initiatives for girls, and it is expected to bring balanced growth in education across genders. By providing direct financial support, the government aims to empower students and create better career opportunities.
Stalin emphasised that such welfare measures are part of the State’s broader vision to strengthen education and ensure social progress, adding that the scheme is helping shape a more secure future for Tamil Nadu’s youth.
