Chennai, Apr 3:
All eyes are on the nomination scrutiny process in poll-bound Tamil Nadu after discrepancies were reported in the affidavits filed by Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The actor-turned-politician is contesting from both Perambur in Chennai and Trichy East constituencies.
Vijay initially filed his nomination from Perambur, stating in his affidavit that no criminal cases were registered against him. However, in his subsequent nomination for Trichy East, he reportedly disclosed a pending criminal case from 2025, creating a contradiction between the two filings.
Election rules mandate accurate and consistent disclosure in nomination affidavits. Any concealment or false information can attract penalties, including rejection of the candidature.
With the deadline for filing nominations set for April 6, Vijay still has an opportunity to submit a revised affidavit to address the discrepancy. Otherwise, the final decision will emerge during scrutiny on April 7, when officials will determine whether his nominations are valid.
