Chennai, Apr 30:
The Southern Railway’s Chennai Division has commissioned 11 new foot overbridges (FOBs) during the 2025–26 financial year, strengthening passenger safety and convenience across its network. The bridges, installed at both major and smaller stations, aim to facilitate seamless movement between platforms without the need to cross railway tracks.
One of the key highlights is a 12-metre-wide FOB at Tiruttani, commissioned in March 2026. Designed to handle heavy passenger traffic, especially during peak hours, the structure is expected to significantly ease congestion. Notably, one of the FOBs has also been developed under the Amrit Station Scheme, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernise railway infrastructure.
In addition to Tiruttani, FOBs have been installed at several stations including Walajabad, Tirumalpur, Anavardikhanpettai, Chitteri, Mukundarayapuram, Pudi, Tiruvalam, Vepagunta, Ponpadi and Palur.
The initiative is part of a broader push to improve commuter experience and ensure safer station environments across the division.
